Reflection 1

This reflection invites you to consider how your experiences and goals for your time here at BYU are connected in meaningful ways. There are four parts to this reflection, and your submitted reflection should clearly indicate your responses to each part (with headings, for instance, or numbers). This assignment should contain no less than 500 words.

  1. Take some time to think about this question: What are the three most important things you’ve learned about the mission and aims of BYU? Record these three things, either in a paragraph or in a bulleted list.
  2. Take a few minutes to ponder and reflect on your initial thoughts about why you came to BYU. What factors, events, or people may have influenced your decision to come here and the path that led you to BYU? Record your thoughts in about a half to a full page of prose.
  3. Next, read back over your responses to the previous two questions and give the following prompts some thought. How do you see these two responses as being connected? Why do you think those elements of the mission and aims stood out to you? How is your reason for being here at BYU connected to those mission and aims? Record your thoughts in a paragraph or two (about a half page).
  4. Finally, think about what kind of student you want to be this semester (and beyond) and how the intersection of the mission/aims and your reason for being here might inform who you want to be. Identify two steps you can imagine taking now that would help you become the kind of student who can fulfill the mission and aims of this university and your own goals. Record those steps and explain how they connect to the mission of BYU and your goals for your time here.
